Let Batman Eat Cat: DC Censors Cunnilingus and Twitter is Not Happy About It

In an interview with Variety, “Harley Quinn” co-creator Justin Halpern reveals DC rejected a scene of Batman performing oral sex on Catwoman for the show’s third season.

“It’s incredibly gratifying and free to be using characters that are considered villains because you just have so much more leeway,” Halpern said. “A perfect example of that is in this third season of ‘Harley’ [when] we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman. And DC was like, ‘You can’t do that. You absolutely cannot do that.’ They’re like, ‘Heroes don’t do that.’ So, we said, ‘Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?’ They were like, ‘No, it’s that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It’s hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.’”

The co-creator goes on to even say DC is supportive of their adult-themed Batman content. Yet, a completely normal thing is being censored and even being called unheroic. Is it a big deal? No. Was it relevant to the story? Probably not. However, you also have to ask why it was censored as well. The argument for selling toys doesn’t work when kids aren’t watching this series anyways. Adults are watching it. If your demographic is adult, at that point it just seems like another corporation interested in censoring and social dictation.

Twitter certainly had something to say about DC’s decision.
